Track of the week: Artephis – Glow

We are big fans of Artephis, one of Manchester’s finest forward-thinking jazz outfits.  Featuring trumpeter Aaron Wood, they’ve wowed us in the past with their work with the Untold Orchestra, and now they are back with a new track: Glow.

Starting with some soft EP chords, the track moves gently into a lilting groove with warm bass playing and lagging drum beats.  There are echoes of Moonchild here, especially when the breathy trumpet playing comes in.  It’s Aaron’s trumpet playing that dominates the first half of this track, and that’s no bad thing.  We are then treated to some incredibly atmospheric guitar playing from James Girling, which drives us to the end of the track.

Coupled with the gorgeous animations in this video, Artephis have written something that more than glows, it glistens.  It’s splendid.
