The 2019 EFG LJF starts this Friday 15th November and here’s our pick of gigs you won’t want to miss:
Friday 15th November
Archipelago | Royal Festival Hall, 1pm | This genre-blending trio from Newcastle-upon-Tyne have had a strong presence on the northern scene for a couple of years and will help open the Festival with a party atmosphere at the Southbank Centre’s central space.
Saturday 16th November
Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah | EartH, Hackney Arts Centre, 8.30pm | This will be a feast to your ears with so many musical cultures being referenced in trumpeter Scott’s playing. Vocalist Madison McFerrin is in support.
Sunday 17th November
Patchwork Jazz Orchestra | Spice of Life, 7.30pm | We love this Big Band! Full of top young London players including Billy Marrows, James Copus, Alex Hitchcock and Tom Green, check out their album ‘The Adventures of Mr Pottercakes’ for a taste of this eclectic collective.
Monday 18th November
Arthur O’Hara Trio | Ray’s Jazz at Foyles (Level 6), 6pm | Bassist Arthur O’Hara and saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael played at the very first Jazz Plus gig in 2016, and they are masters of their instruments. This trio wowed audiences at the Love Supreme Roundhouse Festival in the summer.
Tuesday 19th November
Tim Garcia | Spiritland, Royal Festival Hall, 9pm | Musica Macondo and Jazz FM DJ Tim Garcia will be spinning some amazing selections at this gorgeous venue in the RFH. Book a table for dinner and unwind to the best world, soul and funk.
Wednesday 20th November
Billy Marrows Band & AuB | Green Note, 8.30pm | Another chance to see Billy Marrows and Alex Hitchcock in 2 completely different projects. Both bands are pushing boundaries, and AuB has no choral instrument to tie it down.
Thursday 21st November
Têtes de Pois & Brother’s Testament | London Calling Sweden, 7pm | Need we explain? We’re presenting these 2 fantastic bands alongside Jazz Plus DJs and Swedish craft beer. Book your tickets now!
Friday 22nd November
Yakul | The Pickle Factory, 8.30pm | Neo-soul quartet are launching their EP, and it’s full of dreamy vocals and D’Angelo inspired grooves.
Saturday 23rd November
PYJÆN | Royal Docks Weekender, 4pm | A year ago, PYJÆN played the London Jazz Festival with us and have since gone on to release their debut album and tour all over the UK. They’re back in London and you’d be crazy to miss them!
Sunday 24th November
Gareth Lockrane Big Band | Spice of Life, 1.30pm | Arguably the finest Big Band in the UK today – Gareth’s rich arrangements, selection of top players, and of course, *that* flute playing, make this the perfect way to end your 2019 Festival!
