Sunday 3rd June
Jazz Plus Presents: Skeltr and The Poetry Experiment
Skeltr’s Spiritual Punk Funk comes at the audience with sumptuous, technically prolific saxophone solos alongside mysterious samples, synths and loopers for a heartwrenching and thoughtful cascade of modern and technical soulful funk.
Having recently warmed up for KNOWER at the London Jazz Fest ’17 and played alongside Dinosaur at the famous ‘Oslo Jazzscene’ in Norway – Skeltr are making big waves in their first year. Having had their debut album recently played on JazzFm and earmarked by Jazzwise Magazine as one to watch for 2018, Skeltr’s winding musical journey is one not to be missed.
“After a matter of seconds of the opening number, it was clear this was going to be one of those extra special gigs”
– Paul Bream, Jazz North East
“An electrifying new duo in which Sam Healey’s roaring sax lines soar above Craig Hanson’s drum patterns, electronic soundscapes and samples, manipulated live in the moment: a striking, expansive sound with a buzzing energy at its core.”
– Steve Mead, Manchester Jazz Festival

The Poetry Experiment
A blend of Food and Liquor,
Madvillainy jazz standard figures,
Cayotes in hiatus howling over butterflies in mazes.
Through this voice we try to capture the rapture of Robert Glasper.
This is the Poetry Experiment,
Our name is self-evident,
We bring you music and spoken word for betterment
Like soul food,
It’s so full of sweet melodies-
The instrumentals of our childhood memories.
We reside on the corner of what you knew
And thought possible;
The roads less travelled
But more followed…
